Falling and Laughing

“With the good vibes radiating from the stage, Falling & Laughing are an affable pair, and they’ve won many hearts and minds tonight.”
“The sleeve notes detail how much fun the duo have while recording these carefully crafted songs, and that enjoyment comes through in the sound, which, while influenced by the likes of The Wedding Present and The Field Mice, is very much their own.”

Biography

Falling and Laughing are an inventive indiepop two piece. Their long history of playing together has meant they have honed a live show that contrasts quiet and loud dynamics alongside thoughtfulness and a sense of humour.

Their songs are inspired by jangly C86 indie pop and that strong sense of melody and DIY ethos has followed them through their career. Over time the band have developed and increasingly drawn on ideas from post-rock that challenge and surprise convention without ever losing that early sense of fun and brevity.

Initially starting as an acoustic solo project in 2005, the band started playing live as a three piece in 2006 before temporarily becoming a zero piece. They reunited as two piece in 2009 which has been the composition of the band that has been the mainstay of many line ups in Birmingham and beyond for the last 15 years.

Falling and Laughing fit nicely onto diverse lineups and are for fans of Belle and Sebastian, The Field Mice, Yo La Tengo, The Wedding Present, Shellac, Polvo, Mogwai, and Sonic Youth.

To celebrate 20 years together as a band, Falling and Laughing released their debut album ‘Spacejunk Solarpunk’ in March 2026
