Falling and Laughing

Spacejunk Solarpunk

Falling and Laughing's debut album is called Spacejunk Solarpunk and we're launched it at an all dayer under that same name on the 14th March.

We're keeping this blog going to share what's going on following the launch and maybe beyond.

Trust the Wizards podcast

Excitingly we’ve done an interview for the Trust The Wizards podcast. It’s interspersed with music and we tell some stories about the new album, the DIY community, lyrics and breakfast (the most important meal of the day).

Enjoy!

Edinburgh Indiepop Alldayer

In what can only be described as ‘an exciting turn of events’ - Falling and Laughing are playing at the Edinburgh Indiepop All-dayer! So excited as Edinburgh's welcoming music scene means a lot to me (me being Dunc).

Announcements are still ongoing but you can get tickets here:

Fresh Ingredients on Untidy Radio

We were absolutely delighted that The Band Got Out of Hand was played on Fresh Ingredients last night, which is an Indiepop show on Untidy Radio.

You can listen to the whole show on mixcloud here:

Fresh Ingredients with Jonathan Shipley - Episode 17 (22/03/2026) by Jonathan Shipley | Mixcloud

The show is so thoughtfully put together and curated so we'd really encourage you to listen back, especially as we're nestled alongside plenty of other great new songs (I'm going to be getting that Sea of Days album when it comes out!)

The link to Untidy Radio (and therefore future episodes of fresh ingredients) is here:

And that was the launch

It went so well. I don't think we can thank everyone enough, all of the bands and artists who played, everyone at the venue who made it go smoothly, Al who did the sound, Carla who exhibited some of her art that wasn't the album cover, and everyone who turned up because bluntly with out people turning up to gigs there are no gigs. You all are part of the vibrant music scene in Birmingham that we wanted to celebrate. Thank you.

For the record the headline setlist went like this:

  1. All Good Tomorrows
  2. She Bought a Tape
  3. The Band Got Out of Hand
  4. Daytrip to Doggerland
  5. One Quiet Night
  6. Shinkansen
  7. Soundwave
  8. She Built a Robot
  9. Space Flight to Jan Mayen

Yes, two new songs that we've never played live before at the start of the set. We're testing things out for the next new album and might drop a few more of those in to sets.

For now, you can buy the new album on vinyl over on Bandcamp here - Spacejunk Solarpunk | Falling and Laughing

We'll keep this blog open to dwell in the afterglow of the launch for as long as we possibly can and share what we're up to.

LAUNCH DAY

Yes. It's here. I'm torn between ‘eeeek’ and ‘lets do this’.

Firstly the album is up on streaming sites! If I can steer you towards bandcamp where you can also buy the album on vinyl then the link is here

I'd also highlight our soundcloud which is in need of a bit of love if that's your streaming site of choice

Secondly it's the all dayer today! There are still tickets on the door if you're planning to walk up. Doors at around 2.30 and first band on at 3.

No No Peeling

Some sad news I’m afraid, No Peeling have had to pull out of the alldayer due to an ongoing injury. Get well soon Dan!

We’ve decided to keep the slot free rather than find a replacement, the bands are coming thick and fast so it’ll be a breather and also give time to grab food rather than putting people in a position where they have to work out which band they’ll miss to do that.

We’re gutted about it, but will work out a way to get them a debut Birmingham show when they’re better!

If this change affects your plans then please let us know.

Kids tickets

We’ve been asked whether children can attend the all-dayer. The answer is yes!

There will be alcohol and live music of course, but if you’re good with it then we’ve put some kids tickets up. Free naturally, although they have to come with an adult. We want children to be around DIY music and if making kids tickets available also helps some adults come down then great!

The tickets are available on the event splash page - https://www.skiddle.com/e/41909457

How old are kids? Under 18s. Beyond that you’ll have to get an adult ticket, no matter how young you feel at heart.

Spacejunk Solarpunk vinyl pre-release sales link

It's here!

We're exited to share it, and so we've put up copies for pre-release sales on our bandcamp page. If you want to buy a copy to listen to before the launch on the 14th March then this is for you.

The album will be available online on the 14th March, and at that point will be available to listen to on the usual streaming platforms. The album will be available for sale on bandcamp, or of course in person at the all dayer on the 14th March.

NOTAFLOF

You may have noticed the phrase NOTAFLOL on the poster. It's not that well used locally and we’ve had a few conversations with people asking about it, so we thought we should explain what this means and why it's there. NOTAFLOF stands for No One Turned Away For Lack of Funds.

Looking back on some of our posters from 20 years ago it cost £3 for a solid line up of amazing bands, or £5 for a whole all dayer. Conversely have you bought a ticket for a semi-famous band recently. FFS. If you get played on 6Music then you get to add an extra tenner to the ticket price too.

We think music should be accessible for people and we should be trying to remove the barriers to participating. There are lots of barriers, many are deeply structural but we can all try and do things about them within our control.

Offering NOTAFLOF tickets at the all dayer is one of the ways that we’re trying to remove a financial barrier. If a standard ticket is too expensive for the circumstances that you're in - for whatever reason - then select one of the NOTAFLOF tickets. It’s entirely your decision about whether you qualify. No one is going to ask you for proof or give you a different colour wristband. We'd love to see you at the show and joining in.

Conversely, if your circumstances mean that you can afford a standard ticket then please select that option as it helps us put on an inclusive gig and we'll use it to make sure that all the people and musicians who are working the day get a contribution to their costs.

It’s a pay what you can philosophy, there might be better ways to do this and there are all sorts of barriers to participating - so as always we welcome thoughts on how we can make Falling and Laughing gigs more accessible.
